DESCRIPTION:Astoria Jazz Collective is gathering up favorite holiday tunes for a night of original arrangements. While the shuffle of Christmas music begins to filter into our everyday reality sometime after Halloween and way before Thanksgiving\, it’s the mission of this collective that there’s still some modicum of delight to behold with a fresh take on some classic tunes. \nGuitarist\, composer and arranger Dave Drury gives “Jingle Bells” a Latin swing\, Dinah Urell pays homage to Coltrane with her vocal/guitar arrangement of “My Favorite Things” and drummer Dusty Hill’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” features a trio harmony including\, pianist Roxanne Hill and Urell — a sample of some the nights selections. The vibrant reeds of jazz newcomer to the region Tom Hunt and sublime beats man and harmonist\, bassist Clarence Robinson fill out the show. \nFeeling like a Grinch cause you never want to hear another xmas tune for as long as you live?
